Lake Patrol is a seasonal part-time job. Lake patrol consists of four people that the sheriff's office hires to patrol the two federal lakes, Pomona and Melvern. The lake patrol deputy positions are funded by the Corp of Engineers, which also provides the lake patrol with sport utility vehicles. This allows the lake patrol deputies four-wheel drive vehicles to access part of the lakes that a normal patrol vehicle wouldn't be able to safely travel.
Lake Patrol deputies usually work from April to September. There are two lake patrol deputies assigned to each of the federal lakes. The lake patrol deputies are trained by riding with full-time road patrol deputies. This is an excellent way for criminal justice students who are out of school for the summer to work a law enforcement position, however people of all ages over the age of 21 are eligible to apply and become employed.
